sick way too often (I've been sick for what seems like a month), and
we are feeling a little down from not sticking to our New Year's
Resolutions. It's no wonder we feel like throwing in the towel
sometimes. But with these worksheets and activities, your kids will
learn to LOVE being cooped up with this weather, and so will you!

CRAFTIVITY #1: BLACK HISTORY MONTH DIRECTED DRAWING

CRAFTIVITY #2: SYMMETRY ACTIVITY
These worksheets can come with or without guides, depending on the skill level of the children you're working with. Just like the Directed Drawing activity, this worksheet will teach your kids how to draw as well as the patterns that can be found in symmetry. If you want this two-for-one, go ahead and grab it now. CRAFTIVITY #3: PAPER CRAFT
This activity is very similar to the Directed Drawing - but it gives life to your pictures! There are options to print this in color and in black and white, which gives your kids the opportunity to get artsy and color it in themselves. For more about this craft and to download, click here.
CRAFTIVITY #4: ALL ABOUT NELSON MANDELA FLIPBOOK
This one is a bit different than the other activities, 1. Because it's only about Nelson Mandela, and 2. They are fun and engaging flipbooks. Your child will forget they are learning as they are full to the brim with unique facts, writing practice, counting, and so much more!!
Okay, I'll admit, I used to loathe making things like this when I was a kid, but - this is seriously so easy and fun! Just to prove to you that this is worth the effort, here are some pictures of kindergartners making them firsthand. His name is Beckett, and he was so into it. We had so much fun!!
BLACK HISTORY MONTH FUN FACTS
Alrighty, as promised, here are some quick and interesting fun facts to really go the extra mile with these AMAZING activities.
Black History Month -
- Black History Month came to be in 1926 by Carter Godwin Woodson. The month of February was chosen in honor of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, who were both born this month!
- In the 1940's, black Jazz musicians started calling each other 'man' because they were tired of being called 'boy' by everyone else.
- One in four cowboys were black, despite the portrayals we see in old western movies and folklore!
Barack Obama -
- His first name, Barack, means 'blessed' in Swahili. It was also his father's first name.
- He worked at Baskin-Robbins as a teenager, and ever since, has not liked their ice cream!
- Barack Obama is OBSESSED with comics - especially Spiderman!
Martin Luther King -
- When MLK stated the most iconic part of his speech, 'I Have a Dream', it was improvised!!
- He was the youngest male ever to win a Nobel Peace Prize (at age 35!).
- He was very smart, and even skipped two whole grades in high school.
Nelson Mandela - *a lot of facts are included in the Flipbooks, check them out!*
Rosa Parks -
- Her father was a carpenter, and her mother was a teacher.
- Rosa won both the Congressional Gold Medal, as well as the Medal of Freedom.
- You can visit the actual bus that she was on at the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan!
Ruby Bridges -
- Ruby worked as a travel agent for 15 years.
- Ruby was a volunteer for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. In order to be a volunteer, she had to take and pass a test.. as a kindergartner!
- Ruby had to be taken to school by the police, because of all the protesters.
